Reinventing Yourself   2 comments

Is it time to split your seams, step out of your skin
pump bold blood into fragile fresh wings?
This, the season of zest and song, could be your moment
for courageous pause, to unzip hard coats
that pinch your soul
and soar beyond thin rootbound worlds.

OSU pillars and walkway

Fragrance of rain-bruised azaleas on this side, a row of ripening elms beyond.

A petal drops, the hardy elms wave.  Do I hesitate & wait, it’s still not late, or

hasten through the unkept gate before my boots turn to stone

while I drowse in cozy comfort of what I think I know?

Where’s the gatekeeper? Who will be my ferryman?

Even when stuck on this cusp, I know, of course, they are me.

Draw close, peer through a wildly wee window, and the ordinary world drops away. Your one-eyed view through keyholes, knot-holes, and Easter egg peepholes is a one-way ticket to the other side, the shimmering one that almost makes you fall. Into. That’s how I feel when I step out from my bright, electric world onto a spring-green, low-lit trail with its tender vine maples and sword-pointed ferns. Take a look!

Crow with a stick

Above the bubbler
crows building their future, back
and forth, stick by stick
