A New Leaf   Leave a comment

Walking in the forest, I’ve lately been on the alert to find as many “firsts” as I can, in honor of western Oregon’s quick shift from winter to spring. Not only am I prone to name-dropping (Look—toothworts and snow queens! Indian plum- and salmonberry leaves!), but I’m also frequently prone on the forest floor, trying to make perfect photos of these perfect spring outpourings. I only wish that the season’s fragrances and bird songs could accompany these shots.

Soft explosions, new

Leaves—hungry, wrinkled and bright

Fresh stretches of green
